That is very good advice and it has worked in the past for mee, too. I would only add to be sure to request the properties you're interested in, as the sites tend to put the higher-cost"name" brands well down on the list of choices that pop up, especially when they can't get a price break from them for you.

Doesn't always happen, but keep it in mind if you don't see ES or the Marriott on the list.
