It's an odd situation for sure. It's certainly not 100% clear the hotel made the call but it seems likely. In any event I think you are not overreacting. Normally I find these type of threads are almost always people overreacting but I don't here. The outside door may have been broken, the hotel may have called you and been rude, and in any event the hotel should have either protected you from a scammer and/or not created a situation where two customers were face to face. I would escalate.
