Are we to understand the "privacy door" cannot be opened with the room key of a guest staying in either of those two rooms?

Doc Savage suggests the caller could have been the drunk guest masquerading as a front desk employee. Is there a house phone on the floor?
I too believe it was the drunk guest rather than the front desk. I can't imagine a Marriott employee acting this way and of course security or maintenance should be the one opening the door.

You have every right to be upset and this warrants an escalation.

Beware of scams. There is a con whereby phoning claiming to be front desk and asking to verify credit card info. Always hang up and you call front desk to make sure before providing any info. Better yet, go down in person.
