Alternative to AmEx Platinum? Unsatisfied customer.
I'm annoyed with AmEx after they poorly handled a dispute; also, they are impossible to reach easily via telephone. I spend approximately $100K/year with AmEx. I also have a Chase Sapphire Preferred and have had mostly good experiences with Chase. I'm thinking of getting rid of the AmEx Platinum but need a good card for warranties, hotel program, etc. I use the Sapphire Preferred for most travel expenses and restaurants. I also use an old AmEx Blue Cash for day-to-day expenses (grocery, gas, etc.). I closed a World Elite card years ago after getting the Platinum card. Does anyone have experience with switching from AmEx Platinum back to World Elite or to Chase Reserve? Chase Reserve seems to have all of the bells and whistles of the Platinum. I'm going to miss the FHR benefits but could I possibly replace that with the Reserve's luxury hotel program? I only have one upcoming stay booked with AmEx FHR but can still cancel.
To expand on my dispute issue, I ordered a $770 toilet for a home renovation. The toilet arrived broken. The merchant (a family-owned plumbing supplier near my hometown) acknowledged that it was shipped broken and offered to replace the broken part. It's been over 4 months and the part has not arrived. I last heard from the merchant one month ago, but the merchant is now unreachable. I have no idea when this replacement part will arrive. My emails have gone unanswered. I would like a credit so that I can buy a toilet from another merchant. AmEx denied my dispute. So, I'm out $770 and I am in possession of a broken toilet. This is pretty basic dispute stuff. There's no reason for this to be denied. I have all of the documentation to prove it. AmEx has been slacking in this area lately and there's no reason to pay $450/year for basically no purchase protection.
