Courtyard / RI NYC Manhattan Central Park - am I over reacting?
LifeTime Plat with about 1500 nights over the last 10+ years. This was a first for me. Read the note below I sent to the manager of the property (who I know as I've stayed 10+ times). The response was essentially "thanks for reaching out, we'll try harder next time". No apology or anything! Should I reach out to corporate? Am I over reacting? Opinions sought:
I stayed in room 3114 last night. I got back to my room after a client dinner about 1030pm and went to bed shortly after. About 130am my hotel phone rang. I slowly awoke as it started to ring again for a second set. I stumbled to the desk phone and picked it up. On the other end was an extremely rude front desk employee (a woman) who said “YOU shut the privacy door and now the people in the room next door cannot get in”. I was in quite a haze and asked simply “what?”. She again repeated, “YOU shut the privacy door and the people next door cannot get into their room. This is the front desk you need to go out and open it up now”. I thought for a minute trying to process what she was saying (it was late, I was half asleep and I had no idea what a privacy door was) to which she responded something along the lines of “go open it NOW”. I responded with “I am not sure what you are talking about and I don’t understand how this is my problem.” She again repeated “YOU shut the privacy door and you need to go open it”. Sensing that she was not going to give up and wanting to get back to sleep I hung up the phone, put some clothes on and then opened my room door. I then realized what she was talking about as there is a door (called the privacy door, I can only assume) that can be shut between these two rooms. Unfortunately, when I opened it up I was confronted with a very intoxicated couple who began shouting at me and getting into my personal space. They were yelling something about me having shut this door. I responded that I did not close the door and was going back to bed. The man continued to yell at me (he was perhaps 3” from my face) and said “the front desk told us you closed it” and I was indeed concerned for my personal safety. I returned into my room quickly, closed and locked the door and the man continued to pound on my door and shout obscenities for another short while. I thought about calling the police at that time.
So WHY is this my problem? Why would I be woken up in the middle of the night to open this door? I see there is an electronic lock on the door. What if I was not in my room? How would anyone get in? Surely there is a way to open this. Again WHY is this MY issue?
This morning when I opened my door the privacy door was again closed. Clearly there is an issue with this door!
In short, I did NOT shut this door. The employee that called me was extremely rude and put me in great danger with these intoxicated guests. This is clearly a serious training issue and I have significant reservations about staying at your property ever again. Please let me know ASAP how we can rectify this issue.
