I'm not familiar with Mexican consumer protection law but U.S. law doesn't favor you.

Your contract (the reservation) is with the property, not Starwood or SPG. The Starwood booking site is simply an agent, contractually. Lurker or SPG Customer Service may act as an advocate - or not.

You can insist, and show up only to find they have no room for you. Would that be convenient? Are you familiar with the relevant law for room overbooking? Unlike airline overbooking in the U.S., their is no Federal oversight for room overbooking.

It's a crap deal. Hotel owners are big campaign donors. Don't expect the law to get more consumer-friendly.
