Any good tricks to lower point cost?

I am an HHonors novice and was thoroughly confused by the Intro threas.

I am about to stay in Scotts Valley, CA for 2 nights at 30K per night. Is there any way to get a lower point requirement? I don't see a points and money choice. Or is this it?
