Call exactly 24 hours before the flight and you have a good chance. Upgrade is $40 per direction for flights up to 1200 miles, which those are. Just call the main AS reservations number and say you would like to confirm a $40 upgrade. They will do it right then if there is space available. If not, get to the gate early and get on the upgrade list but there is little chance at that point.
