As I mentioned, you may want an additional antenna as well, unless you are pretty close to the transmitters. I have this one:

Good luck.
How far would one have to be to require an upgraded antenna?
I'm going to be using it for ATC, and police as well.

Airport is about 10 or so kilometers from where I live, and the police transmitters are about 7 kilometers away.

Personally for a throw-away $9 (or as little as $7 if an "Add-on") I would experiment with this highly rated antenna: https://www.amazon.com/ExpertPower-7.../dp/B00AG1GVA6

Suspect both will work decent if the police frequencies are in the traditional 149-159Mhz band. If in the 170Mhz or 470Mhz range, it is a crapshoot if signals would be better than the Uniden "Rubber-Duckie".
If I'm not wrong, police are still using the traditional frequencies, ATC is using 123.7 - 129.6 for the airport that I'm nearest to.

The antenna you linked has a 7 inch and a 15.5 inch version, would the larger one make a noticeable difference in performance?

Thanks again.
