I agree that another antenna may improve reception, but it isn't a given. The Diamond is tuned for the 144Mhz and 440Mhz ham bands, and may not be beneficial too far out of those frequencies.

Personally for a throw-away $9 (or as little as $7 if an "Add-on") I would experiment with this highly rated antenna: https://www.amazon.com/ExpertPower-7.../dp/B00AG1GVA6

Suspect both will work decent if the police frequencies are in the traditional 149-159Mhz band. If in the 170Mhz or 470Mhz range, it is a crapshoot if signals would be better than the Uniden "Rubber-Duckie".
