HR Maui is definitely not very relaxing, it's more of a mega-resort, which can be nice sometimes. The facilities next door at the Hyatt Residence Club, particularly the adult pool (though small), & beach bar, are a bit more relaxing.
IMO, HR is best used as a base location (and of course, not as good as Andaz even at that, but different location) for the type that can handle a larger resort but wants to spend most time away from the property - tons of beaches (some very quiet) in that part of the island, some hikes, Lahaina is a nice town with restaurant options (mom and pop to expensive) and shopping, etc.
