i thought DUB was just passport control, and you still have to clear customs when you land in the USA? At least that's how it worked when I went to Ireland. Maybe it's changed.
I've only been through preclearance at YVR, but they do have customs there. When I had a checked bag, the agent brought up a photo of it taken from a conveyor belt after coming off my AC flight.
