In the past, I just showed my US passport to enter a US consulate. There was no need to enter the country on that passport. Depending on what you need, they would still be able to help.

I never had my passport stamped entering HK, Macau, China. I entered Malaysia once on my HKSAR passport so there is no stamp on my US passport. Now even Israel have not been stamping passports for two years. Even back 20 years ago, Europe port of entry sometimes stamped my passport when entering, sometimes when exiting, sometimes both ways and sometimes none. When I applied for GE years ago, I told them about all these travels. They scanned my old US passport and my HKSAR passport (they don't know what to do with my HKSAR passport, but they scanned anyway). One of the CBP officers told the other one that I was using HRP to enter China. US immigration has been well aware of that.
