My favourite recent conversation in a hotel:
Weary Traveller: I need to extend my stay by a couple of days. Could you tell me what rate is available, please?
Front Desk: Certainly sir. <much tapping> It's €280 per night.
WT: Ooh, that's expensive, my current rate is €105! Is there a restriction on getting a rate like that, then?
FD: <much tapping> Well, sir, you have an internet rate. There is still availability, but it can only be booked through our website.
WT: I see. There's no way you can extend my current booking? Or find a way to get me that rate, then?
FD: No, sir, I have no access to book that rate. That must come in the form of a pre-pay voucher from our internet department.
WT: So, let me see, I can walk over to the business centre there, pay €10 to use the computer, go to your website, and get a rate that's less than half what you can offer me, directly, here.
FD: Yes, sir. I can make a note that you should keep the same room.
So I did. Slightly ridiculous...
