The second person charge seems more likely to show up in places where it's the something of local custom. I've paid an extra 10 euros a night for my husband in Austria and I'm told it's not uncommon in Germany and Japan as well.
The correct way to show a second person charge is to include it into the displayed price per room when doing a search for two persons. Anything else is misleading. It's not like the charge would be the same from chain to chain or even from property to property.
