As always, the staff here is affable, courteous, and just great. And when I got to my room, I was initially really pleased with the remodel. The hotel has clearly put lots of money into the property in the last few years. The furnishings appeared brand new, the bed was comfortable, and the bathroom very nicely done with the best lighting I've ever encountered in a hotel room. The new electronic contact-less locks are a nice upgrade (and, I presume, ready for when HHonors rolls out digital key to Hamptons). The small pantry (unusual to find in a non-Hampton Inn and Suites) is well stocked. The coffee is kept hot throughout the day. The hotel is immaculately clean. Little touches that shows that the staff does care. The breakfast is the usual Hilton brand-standards mediocre fare, but that is not the fault of the hotel, but of "corporate" that has discouraged any local initiative over the years.
BUT.... the furniture is hellish -- specifically the desk chair and sofa(?)/chair(?)/mutant-hybrid-of-the-two(?) are hugely uncomfortable. The sofa/chair/mutant defies actually being sat on, given its design. The desk chair is actually not a desk chair at all, but a kind of upholstered bucket-chair. It would not adjust in height (well, actually, when I sat on it, it sank to its lowest height and could not be adjusted upwards), it does not recline, it does not have a high back. It is utterly unsuitable for working at the desk and gives one an ache in the lower back very quickly.
I anticipate many more stays in the area prior to early morning flights, but the ergonomics of the new furniture make working here (which I almost always need to do) at the desk uncomfortable and unproductive. Sadly, I'll be looking much more often to the adjacent Hilton Garden Inn or nearby Homewood Suites, although they are usually more expensive, even with MVP rates.
With a 6am flight, I am looking for the closest hotel to the airport. I am assuming that a 5am shuttle would get me to the airport at 515-ish, which is comfortable for me to board a 6am flight with Pre-Check. Is the Hilton Garden Inn or Homewood Suites any closer? Any benefits for Diamond members?
