Applied RPU to ORD-LAX weeks in advance. As a 1K wound up #3 on the list and failed to clear as only 2 were upgraded. Equipment was changed from 738 to 739 one hour before departure but UA still 'sold' those 4 additional seats rather than providing additional upgrades. With this kind of system, RPUs are completely worthless.
