Penny wise dollar stupid.
Booked room on points for 3 adults. Point rate is the only one that doesnt mention surcharge for 3rd person in a room and I have no prior experiences at any IHG property where I was forced to pay after making similar bookings.
After inquiry about airport transportation options I received a reply that listed said options and basically said "oh by the way, we noticed there are 3 of you so be prepared to pay 3rd person surcharge of $50++ per night.
After double-checking my reservation, maximum persons allowed per room and rate details and not seeing anything I asked what was the reason and was referred to the "child policy" that says children are $25++, and children after 12 considered adults and are paid 50++.
After several backs and forths where I was asking when this information was presented to me during the booking or where it exists in my reservation, here came final reply, saying "we will waive charge for 3rd person per night but all 3 adults will have to share single king bed, if you want to have extra bed it will be same $50". I almost imagined people who wrote email looking at each other and shouting Gotcha!
In past 15 years I was staying in excess of 1500 nights in different hotels and resorts and to be honest I feel offended by this matter of fact extortion. I am seriously thinking of staying somewhere else (hyatt regency danang comes to mind) rather than hope to get any positive experiences from stay at the hotel that welcomes you with the words "Xin chào from InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort where Myth Meets Luxury!"... you'll have to pay.
Am I making this a bigger issue than it is?
