Is this typical for JAL to block so many seats before departure? I never recall having any problem with Finnair concerning this.
My travel agency could not pick any seats either, told me to wait until OLCI opens.
I have a codeshare with BA (operated by Finnair) from KIX back to ARN on my way home. I could check my travel from the BA website (not sure about seating though) and all the legs are visible.
Not sure if should check in through BA or Finnair... A bit confusing this sorry for that.
That is very normal for JAL. The purpose is to help Emerald members and last minute high value bookings to get decent seats, also to be able to accommodate families etc. AS manages their seat differently, and BA does it in a 3rd way. BA's way includes everyone without status (or very expensive tickets) to pay for advance seat reservations. Even in Business Class.
