After reading some reviews here, I have converted my AmEx points to SPG, then to Marriott Rewards points, then convert to Category 8 + 120K Avios Travel Package. The package is just too good value to miss.

I have just used the Cat 8 certificate on "The Prince Sakura Tower Tokyo, Autograph Collection" hotel for 7 nights at the end of this year.

It should fit us well as we are travelling with 2 children under 6 (children under 6 stays free), and I do need a spacious room for all 4 of us. Whilst I understand it is not the most happening of places, given it is short walk to Shinagawa station, it should be fine for us.

Looking at the confirmation, whilst it confirms that the room is covered by the certificate, however they did mention the following charges:

Service charge Included

Estimated government taxes and fees 400.00 JPY
Total for stay (per room) 2,800.00 JPY

Now I know it is not a huge cost, but is this expected? Does this cost apply for all hotel stay in Tokyo?

Also I am Gold Elite with Marriott, will everyone (including children) gets free breakfast? Or cover 2 people only?

Finally, I noticed that there is a Ritz Carlton (Tier 5). I could in theory get more SPG points and upgrade my travel package to stay at RC Tokyo. Has anyone stayed at both? I just wonder if it is worth it as I have never stayed at RC before. However, according to TripAdvisor, RC Tokyo ranked 2 in hotels in Minato, and Sakura Tower ranked 5th (Conrad, Andaz, Grand Hyatt ranked 1, 3, 4th respectively). So I think it is better value to stay at Sakura?
