I like using VPN for public wi-fi, too, even on secure websites. It isn't expensive for a month long subscription (< $10 usually). Most the popular/well regarded VPNs have mobile and desktop clients. Also be sure to have any authentication methods necessary for 2FA like e-mail, sms, 2FA clients in case the bank/investment detect that you are not at "home" and need to re-authenticate you.
