Full cabins are best to get one's choice and most incidents reported happen on part-empty cabins, and of course as GCH/GGL you are top of the pecking order for meal choices.

That said, several times now, I have not had my choice for breakfast (as second meal) as crews typically do not allocate those by status.

And yes, pre ordered (but that's only ex-LON) is guaranteed except in case of technical mishap.
