For once, when in Savannah, forget about chain hotels and just enjoy the Southern living. Go to the Planter's Inn.
Our favourite, without doubt. There is a garage next door if you are by car. The restaurant in the pink house on the square is a must. Early in the morning go to the roof terrace, enjoy your coffee and read the paper over the roofs of Savannah. The four poster beds are great too.
The hotel does not have a restaurant of its own, but who cares, there are plenty right around the corner, especially a dirt cheap, not much to look at place that offers the best southern cooking ever.
The hotel is just one tiny block away fron the main thoroughfare facing a nice quiet park park.
If you've got the time, go to Tybee Island. The Beach colony has an excellent fish restaurant, then go walk on the beach for a mile or so, all relaxed. Sorry for the length, Savannah is just one of our favourites.
