My experience at YVR:
Secondary private room because I was doing a dame day turn (though on the ground for the full day). They didn't like the fact that I had a diagram of a family tree. They thought it was some sort of drug ring. (I was preparing a eulogy for the following day).
My experience at the Canadian/US Border in Northern Vermont:
Mind you, this was the US side, as I was coming back to the States. Here are the questions he asked:
"How is it that you flew in and are driving out??"
"What is the name of the airport you flew into." I answered, "Montreal." He said, "No, I need the name." "Dorval" I said. "That airport doesn't exist."
Once we got by that series of question, it continued:
"Why were you in Canada? Isn't the US good enough?"
"Why are there only two of you? Where are your wives?" (We are a gay couple)
"You aren't allowed to have your iPhone on when you are crossing the border."
