Double charged, Doubletree Livermore, CA

I'd appreciate some advice with the following:

In late November 2016 I booked a couple of rooms at the Doubletree Livermore, CA. I booked rooms at the advance purchase rate and my credit card was immediately debited for the full amount for the 2 rooms. Myself and a colleague stayed in early January. When we checked out I was asked if I wanted a copy of the receipt for the stay - I asked for these to me emailed to me. On return to the UK I discovered that my AmEx card had been debited a second time for the same rooms.

More than a fortnight has passed since then. I have emailed Hilton on several occasions. Each reply comes from a different individual ("Thank you for contacting Hilton Guest Assistance. My name is X. It will be my pleasure to assist with your billing concern ....") but the crux of their replies is that they are passing the buck to the hotel. The most recent email from Guest Correspondence gave me the personal email (gmail) address of the hotel manager. I have emailed her and received no reply.

Luckily I paid for the stay by AmEx and so have disputed the charge with them. That said I do feel that Hilton is being very unhelpful in all of this. Basically Hilton Guest Assistance blames the hotel and the hotel never answers. Apart from raising the dispute with AmEx is there anything else I can do to expedite matters? Thanks.
