I don't think your $300 fare is that bad considering you are buying it at the last minute. Fridays and Mondays are expensive to fly IMO. Jet Blue from JFK maybe your best bet. For me when I am going on a short weekend break I try and balance out getting the cheapest fare and a lot of connections and or driving to an alternative airport with spending a little extra and getting to my destination so I can start having fun.
