On the AirPoints chart, Tahiti is in a different 'zone' to the rest of the Pacific Islands, hence the extra cost. You are right in that there are a few differences between the *A vs the NZ charts - the *A chart is often cheaper.

Out of curiosity, for those of you who are Gold Elites, do you get any status bonus miles? I realise that there are other advantages of elite recognition etc but from a purely miles earning/burning perspective, AirPoints seems so extraordinarily uncompetitive against most other *A programmes that I wonder why people choose to use it...?
