And as for Denver, since you brought it up, Alaska only has Denver via Seattle; the rest of the system has no Denver flights. So maybe at least FF credit to Denver might be helpful for the rest of us.
DOT made AS drop some AA codeshares to be able to finalize the VX purchase. And that was AFTER they announced their total breakup with DL...which I honestly think the DOT had a hand in as well. (I'm thinking at some point someone told AS that AA or DL needs to be totally dropped, and the other scaled back, and it was an easy decision from there)

There is zero chance DOT would be ok with AS announcing they're now coding with UA.
