Thanks for the replies. Will think about Hassler again. Palazzo Manfredi looks okay - I don't know much about the immediate area though if there is much else to warrant being a bit further away.

I've been to Rome in August before (after Palio in Siena) and whilst it was very hot, the city was pretty quiet.
