She can arrive in the Schengen area at any time within the granted validity of the visa but when she arrives (for example) 3 months after the first day of the validity she already "lost" these three months because it is not possible to extend the visa beyond the last day of the visa.
She has to leave the Schengen area at latest on the date stated on the visa.
