OP, use two different devices and create two bookings - one for each of you respectively. Go through to the payment page on each the hit purchase simultaneously on both devices.

That's worked several times for me and hasn't failed on BA yet. You will have two separate bookings, so your issue will then be seat selection but at least you've saved £800.
