Obviously they find a way otherwise that equipment wouldn't be used, but has anyone who has flown this noticed the roll come particularly close?

Most commercial passenger aircraft plan their take off performance to utilise the full length of the runway. At full thrust they might be able to take off at 2700m at MTOW on an ISA day (random number for illustration) but by using 85% thrust they can take off in 3000m on a 3400m runway and use 1.5 tonnes less fuel (all numbers made up to illustrate, don't know what the real ratios would be). This is partly the reason for the 777 that overran and took out approach lighting in MEL several years ago. They put in the wrong performance numbers into the FMS and the reduced thrust required for take-off within the runway available distance was miscalculated as too low and they got airborne in clearway at the far end of the runway.
