4 Points by Sheraton Kitchener/Cambridge ON

Hi all,

Just stayed at the 4 Points Kitchener/Cambridge Ontario last Saturday night (1 night stay) and as I couldn't find an existing threat figured I'd give a review.

The Good:

Staff was friendly, room was impeccably clean. Room had enough light to make the room bright (which I much prefer to dimly lit hotel rooms). Bathroom was of a good size and also very clean. Water pressure was awesome. Room preferences were followed - given a room on the 6th (top) floor at the far end of the hall.

THE BAD (AND THERE WAS ALOT OF BAD)

The hotel had no control over the hotel. Evidently there was a kids hockey tournament in town and teams/parents had rented most of the rooms at the 4pts. I arrived to kids running around the lobby yelling and screaming. The elevators had signs taped both inside and outside asking that people not overload the elevators or press all of the floor buttons. Pool was closed because a kid had shat in it earlier that evening.

Got up to my floor and KIDS WERE PLAYING HOCKEY IN THE HALLWAY. Literally. Parents had set up mini goals at each end of the hallway and the kids were hitting balls off the walls, checking each other into the walls, screaming, slamming doors. Parents had pulled furniture into the hall and were playing cards and drinking with absolutely no care that this was a hotel not a bunkhouse.

Complained to the front desk and was told that security did not arrive until 9pm and there was little they could do until then. I went out to dinner - returning at 8:30pm or so and nothing had changed.

Things got quieter after 9 but there was still plenty of yelling/slamming doors/parents hanging out in the hallways afterwards. Was woken up in the middle of the night when some kids knocked on my door (were actually very apologetic when they realized I was not the friend(s) they were looking for). Morning desk clerk told me security was ONE guy for 6 floors full of rowdy kids and parents.

Checked out in the morning and was told that I was being given 5,000 points preemptively for having to deal with the tournament folks. As it was more points than needed for 1 nights stay at this hotel I have not pressed the issue further.

END RECOMMENDATION: Great hotel...as long as there are no groups in town. The hotel does not have the staff or the wherewithal to keep control of the hotel with a big group in town.
