Just note that many Asia outstations are staffed by third parties, who IME sometimes have problems performing basic tasks (let alone mileage upgrades against policy (which I agree is absurd)).

Fortunately (though this doesn't solve the immediate problem), there are many other fine carriers crossing the pacific.
