The check-in completes just fine whether you print or not, no problems. Really, the only reason to do this is if you fear you'll be arriving to the airport late (especially at an airport like LAX that "cuts off" check-in). I have also done it when I was arriving at one airport to depart on a separate ticket for another flight in <1 hour ... didn't want to chance arriving late and being canceled. Otherwise, the kiosks are just fine in every other situation.
