I think it's perhaps good advice which may alleviate some of the potential stress of doing this first time around, so I'm now wavering between switching it to the back to back, or heading to AMS the previous day, even if I were to take the last flight of the day and just spend the night in the closest hotel to the airport, or attached to the airport if there is one.

I can't say that I've ever had much desire to experience RTM, no matter what The Beautiful South may say about it

I don't have the time on that trip to be able to go much earlier on the previous day but perhaps for peace of mind, it might still be worth considering.
