Prince Sakura Tower Tokyo
Check In I arrived at reception about 1050 am after the limo bus from Tokyo Bay to haneda airport and they keikyu line from Haneda to Shingawa station with a walk over the foot bridge and up a short hill as I was walking up the hill the bell person came down and took my rollercase. As I was so early I was expecting to have to wait until mid afternoon for my room but was delighted to be told the room would be ready in 10-15mins so sat in the lobby and in less than 10mins the receptionist came and handed me my keys. Room The room numbering is a little weird. I was given room 5212 on the 12th floor ( 2nd top floor with the top floor being 14 with no floor 13). The room faced south with a view of other hotel pools and a sideview of Shingawa station. The bed was very large ( 3 pillows wide) ,and very quiet. The room had a minibar and a Keurig coffee maker with four coffee capsules. The bathroom was large with 2 sinks ( set a little low but there was a stool to sit on), a jacuzzi bath and a separate shower and good amenities. The wc is in a separate closet across the hall with the signs in japanese only ( but the bidet had separate male and female spray buttons but managed to adjust the temperature). The wifi code is obtained from the TV and the curtains were good at keeping the room dark. The lifts offered a view of the japanese garden but the outisde windows had condendation in the mornings. Service Service was excellent with turndown service in the evening and all the staff were extremely friendly. Dining As a Marriott gold member I got a free breakfast in the restaurant ( about Y3450 otherwise). The staff took your egg order with your choices available on a card on the table and the omellette came quickly at the start. It was a little small but with all the other buffet options it was very good. You also got a card on the table showing the table was occupied and you handed it to a staff member when you were done. There was fruit, cereal, smoothies, bread and pastries, miso soup , hot options and small waffles. Location I found the location of the hotel to be excellent being a short walk from Shingawa station for the Yamanote line for Shibuya, Shinjuku, Ueno, Tokyo and also you could walk through the gardens and other prince hotels to the Takanawadai station for the Asakusa line. There are lots of shops and restaurants around Shingawa station and found a nice patisserie shop on a sidestreet down from Takanawadai station. Overall The location of the hotel and the japanese gardens which are beautiful made the hotel a very tranquil oasis after the hectic pace of some of Tokyo. Getting to Haneda airport from Shinagwa was very quick ( aorund 15 mins on the limited express) The " slow style gym," advertised on the note given at check in for being free to Gold and Platinum marriott members was more like a standard gym and very well equiped. I did not try the spa or sauna.I had been tempted to try the Conrad but both the Conrad and the Ritz carlton were over double the price of the Sakura tower. apart from the autograph collection sign outside there is no indication of a Marriott relationship ( all the room amenities are labelled prince) but the free breakfast and gym access for MR elites were detailed and had no problems. It is an excellent hotel.
