OK, well from AMS BA is cheapest in J bar none on any alliance as far as I can see. Partner lives close to STN so positioning with U2 is as easy as anything can be through that ghastly airport. I can give her a lift back from LHR if she's HBO which is more convenient than actually landing in AMS on the way home.

MH ex-UK is 1400ish, CX through the roof, and not going to be cheaper than BA with CX or MH exEU either.

Gulf airlines are out, before anyone suggests it, and on August dates, again, not cheaper.

I'm going to play around adding a hotel to see what that does, thanks for the suggestions!
