I want to move to the Mileage Plus CLUB card. I was planning on doing it anyway but yesterday I got a mailing for a 75k mile bonus! I fly UA exclusively so I'd still get the two for one miles. ( I fly about 30k miles a year.) And with the Club card we'd get 1.5 miles per dollar spent, which would be significant with that fairly decent annual spend.

Judging by my research, I'm pretty sure that we will lose no miles currently in the bank if we cancel the other two cards. We will continue to actively fly UA and be very active with the new Club card so no miles in the bank should expire. We are currently sitting on a little over 200k miles. With the signing bonus, I expect to be close to 400k miles by next Fall, which should buy us Biz Class RT to Europe (maybe on TK).

Just want to make sure there are no "gotchas" I'm overlooking. The annual fees for the current Explorer cards will not hit until March and April. I'd like to cancel before that. With our fairly decent spend, I suppose they might offer a retention hook but I don't see the point of keeping three different accounts.

I'm I thinking this through properly?

Thanks!
Unless you use the UC a ton, the Explorer Business card dominates the Club card for most people.

Let's assume that about half your $40k spending is food (restaurants) and gas. In that scenario earnings are:

Exp Bus: 20k + 20k*2 (bonus categories) + 10k ($25k spend bonus) = 70k
Club: 40k*1.5 = 60k

So the Explorer Business earns 10k miles more and costs $350/yr less! If you're Gold or above you already get UC access on intl trips, plus you get the two free UC passes even with Explorer. So you really need to use the UC a lot on domestic trips in order for the Club card to make sense.

And no, you don't need to actually own a business to get the Explorer Business card.
