Your luggage needs to follow your ticket... So you either have to check it to BKK.., go through immigration and customs, collect your bags, and then recheck in at BKK for LHR via KUL.

Or go to KUL airport, leave your bags at left luggage, do the KUL-BKK-KUL sectors, go thru immigration again, collect your bags and then check in the bag for the KUL-LHR sector.

MH @ KUL will not allow your bags to be checked to LHR without having flown the KUL-BKK-KUL sectors.
Thanks. Annoying but feared it might be the case as I think BA are fairly alone in allowing this. Feel my 2.5hrs connection time in BKK will be a bit short, so think I will need to change to the earlier flight just to be safe.
