Went to a very interesting Kroger window thing. There was an Mx915 facing the cashier and the cashier does the inserting or swiping in the Mx915. Facing the customer was a PinPad 1000SE, which worked for entering PINs.
Maybe this is most ideal to protect the Mx915 from the elements, for these little window kiosk things.
This felt very European, because in small instances, I had places where a cashier still did the inserting and only a PIN pad faced the customer (which I didn't get to use because...c&s)
