Do you still live in midtown east? I'm guessing that the extra travel time to JFK as well as the extra time needed to navigate the much larger airport cost you more time than the traffic to LGA.

if if I were leaving midtown east for a 10am flight, I'd leave at 8:30 if flying out if LGA, and at 8:00 if flying out of JFK. So couldn't you just keep the LGA flight and leave home at 8am?
