Animal Experiences from Room

It's magic to be sitting in our own tent and to see animals outside.
  1. Khwai River Lodge - a lush green setting with a stream flowing by the lodges; rich with animal sightings. The rooms overlook the stream with the Moremi National Park just beyond. The stream has many hippos in it. They come out to graze on both shores, albeit on the hotel side at night. We awakened early one morning to find 2 adult hippos and one baby in front of our tent. Elephants come down for water and herds of impalas were nearby.
  2. Savute Elephant Lodge - we were in tent 4 which has the best location just above the water hole that the hotel keeps filled. One night across several hours we saw a total of 80 elephants come to the water hole. It's dark they are gray, you need decent night vision until they get close to the pool where there is dim lighting. Some would stay for awhile, whether in the water hole or standing beside it. We saw nursing babies come with their mothers. We were told that at times of year when there is a shortage of water across the park, cape buffalo, giraffes, and zebra all come.
  3. Eagle Island Lodge - rooms are set back a distance from the river. We were told that in June/July the water comes all the way to the room. We saw impalas, baboons, a random elephant and cape buffalo along the river.
