I'm thinking of renting a car from SYD Mon AM and driving along the coast and visiting some small towns before finishing up in Canberra in the evening and staying there till Wed.
How is the parking situation around the hotel? Is there street parking? It doesn't seem like they offer any free self-parking anymore.
How is the lounge? Does one happen to know the hours for breakfast and dinner snacks? Is there hot food available?
And for the return to Sydney, would one recommend taking the train or driving back?
Parking is still free at the outdoor parking spaces just around the hotel. Covered parking attracts normal parking fees. Breakfast at lounge i believe is 6am to 10am on weekdays and 6:30am to 10:30am on weekends. Evening cocktails is standard from 6pm to 8pm all days. Hot food is available during both sessions.

Depending on what time you are driving back to sydney, you may face significant traffic jams on the hume highway. Best option is to fly up to sydney as it shouldn't be too expensive if you book far in advance. QF normally has prices like $149 per way.
