To be honest, I think you are unnecessarily worried here. The odds of problems arising are very slim. I don't think travel insurance is going to help because it would be the airline and/or agent's responsibility to reaccommodate you in case of any schedule changes.

Is this a route that is particularly prone to cancellations or delays, or to an unstable part of the world?
