If you look at it this way, Rewards Club and RA go together, and you have to earn your status, and therefore Ambassador program should be treated seperately and renamed if to be continued (has not much to do any more with RA concept except that it is for IC guests) - a program to pay for.
i expect they'll align the Ambassador year with the calendar year also, to bring them all in line, once they work out how to pro rata the fees
