On some routes, there is a mix of 3-class and 2-class flights. In many cases, the flights which include a Business section cost more than flying first on a 2-class flight. More relevant to your comfort is your choice of plane. While AA first is far more comfortable than CE; certain planes have first cabins which exceed CW for your comfort. You can fly domestic with a flat bed if you choose the wide-bodies.
As for your original question, I'd take the cheaper option: usually first.
