Marriott and Ritz-Carlton Property Worldwide Statistics

As of this posting (01/10/2017), the Marriott hotel search website cites 4897 hotels as part of its brand around the world. Note that none of the SPG properties are so far included.

Marriott Brands:
The website identifies 19 distinct Marriott hotel brands:At this point, the CY properties are the only brand with over 1000 properties - at 1130, that 23% of all Marriott hotels. FI is next at 890 and RI is third at 756. Including the Marriott Hotels and Resorts with these, the four brands compose 68% of all Marriott locations.

United States:
In the United States, there are 3876 Marriott properties (79% of Marriott worldwide) in the 50 states + DC. Highest in count is Texas with 390 (10% of US and 8% worldwide). Next is California with 352 (9% of all US properties and 7% of all Marriott hotels) followed by Florida with 325 (8% of US and 6.6% worldwide). These three states comprise 27.5% of all US properties. However, if you take the next 9 (VA, NY, GA, PA, NC, OH, IL, MI, CO) as a group, they (the 9) total to 1224 (31.6% of US, 25% of worldwide). Combined, the top 12 states comprise 59% of US properties and 47% of worldwide.

Across the rest of the world, property counts were presented as follows:

North America (minus US):
Africa:
Asia:
Australia+Pacific Islands:Europe:
Middle East:South America:Outside North America, some countries have more Marriott properties than their continental/regional neighbors:
  • South Africa (69)
  • China (102)
  • India (39)
  • Spain (75)
  • United Kingdom (70)
  • Germany (39)
  • UAE (21)
  • Brazil (10)
Counting Methodology Notes:
If you're actually adding as you go, the non-US properties total up (for me) to 1119. Adding this to the US total of 3876, I get 4995 - over the 4897 that the website has found. In poking a little further, there are duplicates/overlaps in countries referenced across continents and regions (for example, a quick check shows Armenia, Azerbaijan and Turkey in both Europe and Asia, Hawaii properties appear in both US and Australia+Pacific Islands). So rather than try to unravel the counts of where the 98 duplicates came from, I'm just providing what I found when I selected the master webpage links.

Hope you find these data and statistics interesting and that others find some interesting information when they search themselves as well.
