We're you trying to book the same cabinon the same flight? If not then the issue maybe that I think the terms and conditions are only for the same flight and class if using 2 241s. I successfully managed to split a booking across WTP and CW a few years ago, but only because the terms and conditions on the amex site said same flight, which differed from those on the ba site (which included class). This was through the Newcastle call centre though and took over an hour plus emails of screenshots.
