I am close to a million miler with American - was a 85K / 100 segment flyer LY.

American created a new elite level - Platinum Pro. It requires 75K miles / or 90 Segments to qualify... American "invited me" to join for $899. Seems odd, don't you think? I qualify, based on last year's miles (how I would earn any other 2017 status...), however, since it is a new program/level - you can only "buy your way in".

Doesn't do much to enhance my loyalty. Am I expecting too much?
